Cats with Thumbs

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

We are not currently open for submissions.

Cats with Thumbs aims to be a Literary Fiction and Poetry Publication, appealing to that audience and providing a launch space for writers wishing to be published in places like Overland, The London Magazine, Southerly, The Southern Review, Poetry, The Normal School and other literature magazines.

In broad terms, literary fiction focuses more upon style, psychological depth, and character development rather than be action and plot driven.

Poetry should speak to the heart, the mind and the soul.  It should sing and dance across the page, through the reader and from the maker.

For both fiction and poetry – this feeling is what Cats with Thumbs is looking for.

We also recognise the integral part artwork makes as a creative form and welcome emerging artists to submit their work for inclusion to the anthologies.

There is no submission fee or reading fee or any kind of fee. Sadly, this also means that we cannot pay our creative people (yet). While we are working towards that, please believe us that your work will always be appreciated, respected and loved.

As part of our ethos of creative encouragement, where art and writing melds together, please be aware that your work may be complimented with another form of art (e.g. photograph/illustration). Pairing is entirely at the editors discretion.

Cats with Thumbs publishes a literary anthology of Short Stories and Poetry twice a year (May &  November), with a ‘Best Of’ print collection on an annual basis.

Our deadlines for 2022 are as follows:

May 2022 Publication - Saturday April  2022

November 2022 Publication - Friday October 2022

Our  “Best Of” Anthology which will include the most popular entries from the previous two editions  as well as new material, and this will be made available as a printed copy through Amazon. Contributors for this special printed version will receive a copy of the book as payment for their inclusion.

We are accepting both unpublished and published works, though previously published works must attributed appropriately and permission for re-publication is the responsibility of the author to obtain.

Although we adore love poems, no matter how good they are, they are not what we want to publish.  No ‘epics’ either, but other forms are more than welcome.

Please enter your work under the correct form and follow all submission guidelines. Please also note that the name you submit your work under will be the name it is published by, so ensure its spelt the way you wish it to look (capitals, middle names, full stops etc) We understand many contributors utilise differing ways of presenting their names, so will always follow what the submission form has on it.

To clarify an item, there is no payment on acceptance of your work into this ezine. The ezine is not sold nor exchanged for monetary gains. All entrants, regardless if they are accepted or not, are encouraged to download and freely share the ezine to their networks. Only contributors for our once a year special printed version will receive a copy of the book as payment for their inclusion.
